About Me
A quick introduction, then.
Academically
I'm a Computer Science student at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. I use Linux exclusively (nearly, anyway. I have a installation of Vista on my laptop, since being a CS major means having to use Windows now and then). I helped to restart the Linux Users Group on campus (WSULUG) a couple of years ago, along with a handful of other rather awesome people. I'm quite proud to say it's doing pretty well so far, too.
I've also done undergraduate research, in the form of participating in the International Trading Agent Competition, along with a fellow CS undergrad student, and presented a poster at Undergraduate Research Conference in November 2007.
I was also was awarded the Stephen P. Hepler Academic Award from the Wayne State University Computer Science Department in 2008.
Professionally
I've been doing web development in the travel industry for about four years now, specifically for Airline Consolidators. My work has all been on a LAMP platform, where P == Perl. I've also done some C++ in this context as well. In addition to the more usual web development, I've done a reasonable amount of screen scraping in this capacity.
Personally
I'm in my early twenties, and rather introverted. I don't have much time in the way of leisure time activities or hobbies, but I do enjoy reading. I'd list some favorites here, but I'd go on for pages. I've had a technician class amateur radio license since 1999, but I'll pass on posting my call sign here. I don't get a chance to get on the air often anyway, although I'd like to change that.
I also enjoy music, although I sadly don't play an instrument myself, which is also something I'd like to change someday. I'm not looking to be a master pianist, but I'd love to be able to sit down at a piano and play something reasonably well. My taste in music tends to be a bit eclectic, but includes everything from death metal (typically of the Swedish melodic and progressive varieties) to various forms of classical and a bit of jazz. I don't, however "listen to everything" as some people like to claim. Listening to everything just means you don't have enough taste to reject crap.
